Broadband Services Technician
Central Rural Electric Cooperative
Exhibiting stewardship for the cooperative, the Broadband Services Technician professionally represents the broadband area by providing maintenance and installation of broadband services for Centranet. This includes installation of fiber drops, home installations, Wi-Fi optimization, routine and emergency maintenance and troubleshooting. This position interacts closely with subscribers to coordinate the routing and installation of fiber devices and outlets. The Broadband Services Technician position works closely with other departments to achieve Centranet’s goals.

Core Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities described below are the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be all inclusive for this position.
•
Performs professional installation of broadband enabling equipment at subscriber’s homes which includes optimizing fiber path from NID to ONT, connecting wireless network devices, and conducting speed tests.
•
Educates subscriber on Centranet app, configuration of SSID and password, and trains subscribers on installed equipment.
•
Performs professional installation of Voice Over Internet Protocol broadband enabling equipment at subscriber’s homes, testing of all equipment and trains subscribers on installed equipment.
•
Maintenance, support, upgrade, installation and troubleshooting of network equipment, cables and fiber in Fiber huts, subscriber homes, and businesses.
•
Work with contractors to assist in Fiber hut equipment installation, maintenance, fiber install, and termination.
•
Assist Network Engineering with configuring and troubleshooting network equipment in fiber huts, subscriber homes, and businesses.
•
Participate in on-call duties, standby support outside business hours and weekends as needed.
•
Participates in educational opportunities to stay informed about developments in technology that may aid in the function of the department and the Cooperative.

Work requires a high degree of responsibility for information, technology and/or equipment.

Position has no formal supervisory responsibility for the work of others.
Job Qualifications:
Qualifications

Specific requirements and competencies include:
•
Solid Educational Background - Associates degree in IT, computer science or related field preferred with at least 1 year of related experience required which may include experience with computer maintenance and support.
•
Working knowledge and understanding of broadband and fiber technologies, including but not limited to GPON, XGS-PON, Wi-Fi, fiber connections related to the plant and outside the plant in a field setting.
•
Common network and network management protocols.
•
Ability to solve network, wi-fi, and connectivity problems independently, quickly, and completely.
•
Communicate clearly and effectively with subscribers, peers, supervisor, and other department members through verbal and written communication.
•
Strong organizational skills with exceptional follow though and attention to detail.
•
Exceptional customer interaction skills and professionalism.
•
Ability to accurately communicate moderately complex technical information, ideas, and results in both oral and written form.
•
Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism in safeguarding confidential data.
•
Must be CPR and First Aid certified or possess the ability to obtain such certification within one year of employment.
•
Must have and maintain a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
