Position Description
Power Systems Operator
Central Rural Electric Cooperative
Exhibiting stewardship for the cooperative, the Power Systems Operator professionally represents the cooperative by being diligent and responsive regarding outage and service quality calls. The Power System Operator maintains the safety of the membership, general public and Cooperative personnel as a priority while performing duties which include monitoring data from Smart Grid enabled devices and integrated systems, determining the priority and appropriate resources required, generating service orders and efficiently dispatching the necessary line crews and other related tasks. The Power Systems Operator aids in improving system reliability by monitoring power quality and load management data along with trending historical data and carrying out the objectives and goals of the Cooperative.

Core Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities described below are the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be all inclusive for this position.
•
Prioritize and dispatch outage and power quality events to maintain business continuity and system reliability while keeping line personnel and public safety as the priority.
•
Communicate locations of personnel, equipment, outage information and safety measures with field personnel.
•
Perform Smart Grid Control Room functions using Central’s SCADA System as requested by line personnel.
•
Monitor electrical system historical and real time data to ensure system power quality is maintained.
•
Communicate to appropriate personnel when system anomalies are detected.
•
Troubleshoot power quality issues in a proactive manner using available data.
•
Responsible for being available for scheduled rotational on call duties and as needed on call.
•
Departmental mailings to include planned maintenance including Right Of Way work, pole inspections or any line work or system improvement.
•
Perform analytics and prepare departmental reports, including reliability, outage, and maintenance.
•
Compile the member call list for any call-back situation.
•
Identify areas of the distribution system that may need additional maintenance to improve power quality and continuity of service.
•
Issue Tag Out and Clearance to energize switching orders while maintaining Tag Out Log, and accounting for all field crew locations for safety.
•
Utilize outage texting system to communicate important information to members regarding their service.
•
Coordinate planned outage events and member communication with both Central teams and contractors.
•
Coordinate oversized load route requests with Central teams and third party high load haulers.
•
Responsible for campus wide Emergency Response Event Communications.
•
Record damage assessments for both electrical and fiber assets and communicate damage locations for repairs.
•
Remote reconnect meters as needed when on call to restore power.

Decisions and duties are monitored and reviewed that have a controlled impact on the organization. Work requires a high degree of responsibility for information, technology and/or equipment.

Position has no formal supervisory responsibility for the work of others.
Job Qualifications:
Qualifications

Specific requirements and competencies include:
•
Solid Educational Background - High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other energy related field preferred.
•
Electric distribution experience in medium voltage construction, maintenance, or dispatching is preferred.
•
Proficient skill with Microsoft 365.
•
May be required to work irregular hours.
•
Must have and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
•
